SAN AUGUSTINE COUNTY (News Release) - Gregg Edward Dowd was murdered February 21 outside his business in western San Augustine County and Crime Stoppers is offering to double the reward for the anonymous tip that leads to the murderer's arrest.
Around 1:00 a.m. that Sunday, San Augustine County Sheriff's Deputies responded to Dowd's game room, located on State Highway 21 West at County Road 254, and found Dowd, a 54-year-old white male, deceased in the parking lot. Investigators believe Dowd had just closed the business when someone attempted to rob him. The confrontation that followed ended with Dowd being shot multiple times at a close range.
Murder during the commission of a robbery is a capital felony, which could be punished by the death penalty or life in prison.
Investigators need to to speak with anyone who was at the game room at or around the time of the murder because even the smallest piece of information could help the investigation. If you were at the game room in the hours leading up to Dowd's death, or if you can identify anyone who was, contact San Augustine County Sheriff's Office by calling (936) 275-2424. Information provided directly to law enforcement is not eligible for a Crime Stoppers reward and might not be protected by anonymity statutes.
