LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - The Lufkin Host Lions Club held their Angelina Rodeo Benefit Kick-off Luncheon Tuesday.
All of the sponsors, media, and hosts were invited out to enjoy great food and to get ready for the rodeo, which is just 30 days away.
Tuesday, Julie Murdock from the Lufkin State Supported Living Center was announced as the 2016 Rodeo Hero.
She was called up to the front by Mister Rodeo himself, Mike Mathis, who said he can't wait for this year's event to get started.
"It's a great family entertainment program, the Lufkin Host Lions Club does an amazing job," Mathis said. "The money we raise is for some great charities here that stays right here in Angelina County. It's very exciting; the Lions Club is an a amazing group."
Mathis said he's hoping this year's rodeo will raise even more money than last year, which will be a challenge, according to him.
The Angelina Benefit Rodeo is a four day affair that will kick off April 20th.
