Lufkin's Sayers sidewalk project finished

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - The work has been completed and soon the orange caution cones will be taken off of the new Sayers Street sidewalks.

The city has been working on the project for the pas several months. The goal of the project was to make it easier for families and students to travel between Garrett Primary and Brandon Elementary. This will also help with access to Jones Park. The project was a joint effort between the Texas Department of Transportation and the city of Lufkin.

"It was part of a grant program through the state, and what it allowed us to do was tie the two different schools in the area with Jones Park and some of the neighborhood," City Engineer Chuck Walker said.

Walker said the city is working on getting ready to present another sidewalk project that would help with foot traffic trying to get to Lufkin High School.
