NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) -

Finding a spot to park along Richie Street Sunday afternoon was nearly impossible as the park was packed with people partying it up, for the 10th Annual Easter Day Celebration.

"When I was a kid, somebody used to come here on Easter Sunday and do something and it kind of stopped for a few years,” said the event’s organizer Damion Yarbough. “Ten years ago, a group of us got together and we just started getting together every year, putting together money and getting everything that we needed to put on the event.

The group gets sponsors from around the community to donate, as well as pitching in their own money, for food, candy, entertainment, bounce houses and or course hundreds of Easter Eggs.

“Everyone pitches in every year to make it bigger and bigger,” said event attendee Jervoskie Pruitt. “In fact, I think this event is the biggest one we’ve ever had.”

Over the years, the event has become a community favorite, especially for the kids. They enjoyed playing basketball, eating, dancing, jumping in the bounce houses, and hunting for Easter Eggs.

Yarbough is glad the children enjoy the celebration so much, because that's who the event was created for.

"It's all about the children,” Yarbough explained. “We want to make them smile, make them have a good time."

"I think it's great,” said event attendee Mitzi Garrett. “It just shows that we're more focused on our children than ourselves."

The group hopes by providing their children with positive fun activities in a safe environment will help shape them into good community members in the future.

Yarbough said over 500 people were in attendance.
