LIVINGSTON, TX (KTRE) - Deputies with the Polk County Sheriff's Office have arrested a Clute woman accused of passing out high on pills while breast-feeding her three-month-old child in a Livingston motel.
Milicent Elyse Barber, 36, is charged with endangering a child.
According to an arrest affidavit, deputies were dispatched to Livingston Inn Motel on Oct. 12 and the manager told them Barber was supposed to have checked out at noon but had not done so by 1:50 p.m. He said he could not get anyone to answer the door or phone but knew Barber had a small child.
Deputies used a master key to get inside the room and reported finding Barber in the room on the bed unresponsive with her three-month-old child.
Deputies called for an ambulance and reported finding two pill bottles were found, one containing seizure medication and one containing miscellaneous pills, with one type that appeared to be morphine, according to the affidavit.
According to the affidavit, the child was on the bed next to Barber and it appeared she was breast-feeding when she became unconscious.
According to the affidavit, Barber has prior CPS history due to drug use and that she showed opiates to be in her system.
Deputies obtained a warrant for her arrest on Oct. 14. She was arrested on the charge on Monday.
According to the baby's father, Shane Levinson, the baby is in his custody and doing well in Washington.
