NACOGDOCHES COUNTY, TX (KTRE) - The body of a man reported missing was found on Thursday, according to the Nacogdoches County Sheriff.

Sheriff Jason Bridges said a farmer was cutting hay when he saw the top of a pickup roof in a deep creek around 7 p.m. Thursday.

Bridges said deputies went to the area on State Highway 21 west of Douglass and identified the driver as Alan David Schwiem, 61.

Family had reported Schwiem missing Wednesday evening after he had been missing for 24 hours. Schwiem had left his house in Douglass Tuesday evening to go to the dollar store in Alto but had not returned.

Bridges said surveillance showed Schwiem had gone to the dollar store and it appears he was headed back home when he drove into the creek.

Bridges said tire tracks make it appear Schwiem was headed east when he crossed into the westbound lane and into the creek. He said there is no evidence Schwiem took evasive action.

Family members were concerned about Schwiem because he is diabetic.
