NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) - A very "outdoorsy" Saturday is coming up in Nacogdoches.
In addition to the Farmer's Market Spring Fling and a bike ride, SFA Gardens' annual Garden Gala Day Spring Plant Sale and Earth Day Celebration will entertain families as well.
All the Texas-tough plants are set out at the SFA Pineywoods Native Plant Center on Raguet Street. By tomorrow morning all the Earth Day vendors will be in place. The plant sale starts at 9 a.m. The Earth Day activities start at 10 a.m. All the fun continues until 2 p.m.
"There's always surprises at the plant sale," said Dawn Stover, a research associate at SFA Gardens. "There's always some really neat things that I couldn't live without. I think most gardeners shouldn't live without. We have a perennial snapdragon that is very drought tolerant and blooms all summer, and I think that's probably, if you took one away from that, that's what I would get."
Right next door to the plant sale will be the Earth Day activities. Many of them are geared for children.
You might want to make your first stop at the Farmer's Market Spring Fling. Veggies go on sale at 8 a.m. Music and games in the park start at 9 a.m.
"There's going to be a stage in the park with the children's activities," said Buckley Macinerney, the manager of the Farmer's Market. "There's going to be a free yoga class, a free dance class and a petting zoo. There's 24 different organizations that will be having children's activities."
All the events are attracting out of town guests. Hotel rooms are difficult to come by in both Nacogdoches and Lufkin.
