ANGELINA COUNTY, TX (KTRE) - Firefighters have responded to a house fire on South FM 1194.

It appears everyone has made it out of the house safely. An elderly woman was trapped in the house for a short time because she could not get out of her bed. First responders carried the woman to safety, and she was later taken to a Lufkin hospital for further evaluation. The woman was alert and responsive at the scene.

The fire started around 5:30 p.m. in the 1000 block of the road. A witness said it looks as though the fire may have started with leaves before it spread to the area under the house. However, fire officials could not confirm that.

Capt. Jacob Smith with the Hudson Volunteer Fire Department said they got the fire out before it it spread into the house. the home did suffer smoke damage.

Smith said the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
