LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - An East Texas child advocacy group said anyone who helps abused or neglected children is a hero.
CASA of the Pines, or Court Appointed Special Advocates, got the Lufkin community to lace up their sneakers and dress up for the hero run Saturday morning.
The CASA super hero event had vendors, supporting companies, and about 200 runners show up. Of course, there was a Batman, Spiderman, and all types of costumes, as the supporters dressed as heroes. Organizers were very pleased with the turn out.
"The superhero, I mean everybody embraces it. We had the runners, dogs dressed up in hero outfits, Captain America, who is running with his flag. We've got wonderful costumes this year," said Natalie Thornton, Director of the CASA in Angelina and Polk counties.
This is the sixth year the organization has hosted this event. All proceeds will benefit the CASA of the Pines.
