NACOGDOCHES COUNTY, TX (KTRE) - A house fire claimed the life of a Nacogdoches man on County Road 521 early Sunday.
Sheriff Jason Bridges said deputies and firefighters got the call after 4 a.m. of a fully engulfed trailer house fire.
Deputies tried to get in the house, but were pushed back due to the overwhelming amount of smoke and fire, Bridges said. They then began beating on the side of the house in the hopes of alerting anyone inside.
After the fire was put out, firefighters found a man, identified as Jose Alexis Hernandez, 18, dead in the bedroom, which was close to the kitchen area of the house.
Fire marshals determined the fire started with the stovetop that investigators believe was left on.
