TRINITY, TX (KTRE) -

The Trinity Police Department is cracking down on illegal dumping in the city.

They're doing it with the live mentions app on Facebook  which allows them to connect with the community via social media.  With the help of the community while live on Facebook, the officers were able to find even more trash.

Chief of Police, Steven Jones, said the fine for littering could go up to $500.

"There's Subway sandwiches and things like that. I'm going to find some names, and you'd better come see me. Don't make me come knock on your door!" said Officer Givens of the Trinity Police Department.

Two people have already been given citations.
