LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) -

For the past seven decades, Salvation Army bells have been ringing all over Angelina County.

"We are very excited we are celebrating our 75th year in Angelina County,” said Salvation Army case worker Renea Wilson.

The Salvation Army in Angelina County is responsible for assisting 55,400 with rent and utility payments, supplying over 3 million meals, 880,000 bags of food and 1.4 million articles of clothing,” said State Representative Trent Ashby.

The Salvation Army began in Angelina County back in 1941 and has certainly come a long way.

"This is our third location in Lufkin since the Army began here 75 years ago and we have just continued to grow based on the need of the community,” Wilson explained.

With that growth, the Angelina County chapter is home to something very unique.

"We also have an Adult Day Center, which is the only one we have in the Southern territory for the Salvation Army,” Wilson said.

Still, there is one thing that hasn't changed for the army over the past 75 years; their message.

"We can do the most good in our community,” Wilson said.

"You know, there's a lot of people that are struggling in our community, and it's just great that we have the Salvation Army to help those that need it most,” Ashby said.

"We're looking forward to another 75 years,” Wilson said.
