CHEROKEE COUNTY, TX (KTRE) -

A medical examiner has confirmed the identity of a man found dead in an abandoned home north of Alto on Thursday.

Captain John Raffield, of the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office, said the body was that of Michael Alan Davis, 60, of Alto.

Raffield said Davis had been staying in a travel trailer on the adjoining property of the abandoned house after his own home had burned down earlier this year.

Raffield said it appears Davis died on April 1 or 2. There do not appear to be signs of a struggle in side the home nor any signs of trauma to the body.

Deputies began investigating the case Thursday after 11 a.m. when the property owner was checking on the abandoned home on US 69. Raffield said the property owner last checked on the home on March 31. This time, he discovered Davis' body.
