NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) - The Texas National Competition is the largest juried exhibition for Stephen F. Austin State University's School of Art.
Now in its 22nd year, the show opens this Saturday at the Cole Art Center in downtown Nacogdoches.
Texas National features an assortment of art, including photography, realistic and abstract paintings, sculpture and even a piece featuring a grill cheese sandwich with an interesting image.
One of the jurors of this contest tells us to be prepared to see intriguing artworks by budding and accomplished artists.
"We had well over 800 submissions this year. He had to select 100 of those for the show," said John Handley, the director of SFA Galleries. "I think we have 96 works from 28 states. It's really a mix this year. Ninety-six works by 96 artists."
If you'd like to go check out the art, it's at the Cole Arts Center, off Main Street in Nacogdoches. The exhibit is up until June 11th. The hours are on the screen.
