LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - The Family Crisis Center of East Texas held their annual Prevention in the Park event Friday afternoon across from Lufkin City Hall.
The event's purpose was to have a public way to draw attention to the rising epidemic of sexual and domestic abuse. Law enforcement, child advocates, and medical personnel spoke at the event to educate those in attendance. The event also had a special bubble ceremony used to highlight the fact that many sexual assaults go unreported.
"We did the bubbles this year to signify the unknown cases of sexual violence. Most incidents do go unreported, so that's the purpose of the bubbles," said Executive Director Heather Kartye.
The center is holding more events this month to raise awareness. Those events are listed here.
