JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Social media brought together a daughter and her birth mother when all hope seemed lost.

On Thursday, a daughter came face-to-face with the mother who gave her up for adoption; tense moments for a young lady reaching out, unsure if her love would be returned.

It was a tearful and lingering embrace 24 years in the making, as 24-year-old Brittany Brown and her biological mother LeShundra Washington met for the first time after years of searching.

The anxious daughter waited in another room while her birth mother, lured to a Jackson studio for a supposed photo shoot, received the surprise of a lifetime.

Brown posted the reunion live on Facebook.

"All of a sudden I could see from my peripheral vision that four young ladies were coming in the room and automatically out of all four of them I knew which one was my daughter because she looks so much like the other ones. She looks so much like my other children," said LeShundra Washington.

"When I first heard her voice I was like she sounds just as if what I imagined her sounding like and then she was just so full of life," said Brown. "It reminded me very much of myself because I'm very outgoing. I'm a very personable person."

More than a year ago the young sales rep, who lives in Indianola, received adoption papers that only gave her birth mother's first initial and last name.

Washington, a Jackson resident, had been searching for her daughter for years but under the name she gave her at birth, Jazzmen Zerrelle Washington.

"It feels natural. It feels normal. I mean it's like I said like a puzzle piece, just like somebody came along and finally put that piece that was missing," added the 40 year old hair stylist.

Although often discouraged, the young MSU graduate who was raised in Shuqualak never stopped hoping and looking for her mother.

"Just keep going, keep searching. never lose faith. If you lose faith, find you somebody that can help you along the way," said Brown.

The two now Facetime and talk daily. Brown now has five other siblings.

She will soon return to Jackson later this month for another visit with her mother and will introduce her mother to her one year old granddaughter Aubrey.
