JASPER, TX (News Release) - Over the last couple of months, the Jasper Police Department has been inundated with a large amount of storage building burglaries.

On Friday, April 15, 2016, at approximately 5 p.m., Jasper Police Detective Garrett Foster was traveling east on US Highway 190 near the McDonald's Storage buildings business. Detective Foster noticed an SUV with the driver’s side door open parked in between some of the buildings.

Detective Foster pulled into the business to investigate the vehicle and noticed a large amount of items inside the vehicle that appeared to have come from storage units.

Detective Foster observed a white male subject walking and attempted to get his attention. He contacted the owners of the storage facility who advised that the truck was not supposed to be at that location and a subject was seen running east through the mobile home lot that adjoins the business.

Detective Foster was able to locate the subject near a residence on US Highway 190 and after a brief foot pursuit, the suspect was taken into custody.

Through the investigation, Detective Foster was able to recover property from approximately 10 storage buildings with the possibility of more, with owners not realizing their units have been broken into yet. The burglaries have occurred at both McDonald’s storage facilities on US Highway 190 East and US Highway 96 South. They do not believe at this time any other facilities in the area where hit by this suspect.

The Jasper Police Department is asking anyone who may have a unit rented at either of these locations to please check their units and if they are also a victim to provide an itemized list of the property that is missing.
