Nursing Home Regulations Strict

The executive director of a retirement facility in Lufkin tells us the Department of Aging and Disability Services means business when it comes to deficiencies in nursing homes.

Pinecrest in Lufkin is a place with no affiliation to the Nacogdoches nursing home. Leaders say the state has strict guidelines when it comes to these facilities. Administrators say because of several incidents with dangerous nursing homes and fires, the state holds tight regulations.

J.C. Burch, the Executive Director of Pinecrest Retirement Community in Lufkin said, "they're not vague in what they expect. It's regulation and they specifically quote what regulation applies to that particular person or the building."

Burch says the state has always been willing to work with these facilities to correct deficiencies, but if they are not corrected the state has no problem with shutting them down. Especially if the deficiencies become hazardous.
