NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) -

An East Texas couple surprised a few classmates with a wedding at their 57th high school reunion.

"I decided to liven up the reunion,” Ray Sprayberry said.

The Nacogdoches class of 1959 is a tight-knit group.

"We're a fairly close class as far as fellowship, we stay in touch,” Margie Berger, a 1959 classmate said.

This relationship makes it hard for the group to keep secrets, that is, until this year’s class reunion.

Things started off normal, classmates shared memories, and updates about each other’s lives, but then the unexpected happened.

After 25 years of dating, 75-year-old Ray Sprayberry decided it was time to make Brenda his wife.

Ray made the announcement after everyone gave updates on their lives.

"We've been putting it off and decided that it's a good time to do it,” Ray said.

The couple decided to share this moment with people they consider family, which made this year’s reunion one for the books.

"They both had health problems and to see that they still have a feeling of romance in them, it brings me joy,” Norma Torp, a 1959 classmate said. “For people at this age to find love, it encourages others.”

"It's wonderful, and I'm glad they shared that event with us,” Ben Pruitt said.

"We'll never forget this reunion,” Berger said.

“I’m just glad they could be here and I’m happy I surprised them,” Ray said.
