From Deep East Texas Crime Stoppers
LUFKIN, TX - At the beginning of March, Crime Stoppers requested assistance solving an animal cruelty incident involving Eve the Longhorn.
An investigation began when Eve's owners found her lying in a pasture at Southern Stables, located on Lufkin's Loop 287 near Highway 59 North. The tendons of both of Eve's hind legs had been severed and her veterinarian determined that the injuries, which appear to have been caused by a single blow with a long, sharp object, would not heal. Eve was immobile and defenseless, and she was put down by her veterinarian.
Eve, a registered and prizing-winning Texas Longhorn and beloved family pet, had recently been bred so both mother and baby were lost.
Eve's owner later reported that, while awaiting a taxidermist to preserve Eve's remains, someone removed and stole Eve's head and horns.
Crime Stoppers offered a reward for an anonymous tip that helped solve this act of cruelty toward a pet and put the offender(s) in jail. The case remains unsolved and, thanks to a donation from Texas Longhorn Soap Company, the reward offer has been increased to up to $1,100.
