BROADDUS, TX (KTRE) - A few students suffered minor cuts after a falling tree scraped a Broaddus ISD bus taking them on a field trip Wednesday morning.
Superintendent Shane McGown said the students were on the way to Botanical Gardens in Orange when some high winds hit around 6:45 a.m. and knocked down several trees on US 96 between Brookeland and Jasper. One of the trees fell down the side of the bus and broke the front windshield and some of the side windows.
McGown said some of the glass fell on a few of the students but everyone is OK. There were 20 students and four adults on the bus.
DPS responded to the scene and volunteers came and cut the trees so the students could go back to the school in a different bus. McGown said DPS gave them permission to drive the damaged bus back to the school and the transportation director did so.
