LIVINGSTON, TX (KTRE) - CHI St. Luke's Hospital officially broke ground on a new emergency department at it's Livingston location this afternoon.
The new 16,000 sqft facility will include 27 stations, 3 trauma rooms, and 6 results-waiting station, among other essential rooms.
The hospital, which currently sees about 27,000 patients each year, says the new addition will bring with it space to accommodate up to 35,000 patients.
"We have backlogs, we get crowded, the rooms get full, people can't sit around and wait when they have a really serious issue so they end up having to go up to Lufkin or down South to Houston. So this should alleviate some of that crowding," said Randy Slack, CEO of St. Luke's Memorial Livingston.
Construction on the estimated $10.2 million dollar project is set to begin next month and should be finished by early next year.
