LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - Hundreds of ladies in red met in Lufkin for a nutritious and informal luncheon on Thursday.
Woodland Heights Medical Center hosted their 12th annual Women in Red Luncheon.
The event brought awareness to women's health problems, specifically heart disease.
This year's guest speaker was Olympic gold medalist Shannon Miller.
In Miller's speech, she explained how setting goals keeps her motivated.
"Goal setting, I think, is a critical component to achieving what you want," Miller said. "Whether that is in your work, or with your kids, or your health. It paves the way for change, for growth, and improvement. It helps you close that gap between where you are today and where you would like to be tomorrow."
In addition to Miller's speech, some young poets in East Texas were recognized.
The women in attendance were also treated to prizes and a nutritious meal.
