Angelina Co. sweeps KTRE Showdown

CENTRAL HEIGHTS, TX (KTRE) -

At least for one night, Angelina County all-stars brought back the dominance to the KTRE Pineywoods Showdown that they had the first six years of the tradition.

The Angelina County girls beat Nacogdoches County 66-52 and the Angelina County boys won 69-57.

In the girls game, Angelina led throughout; 15-11 after the first quarter, 28-23 at the half and 51-38 after the third.

Karley McHenry of Cental led Angelina with 18 points. Other scorers for Angelina were Hannah Grandgeorge of Hudson with 11, NaTasha Mack of Lufkin and Kaci McCarty of Hudson with 10, Tiffany Simmons of Diboll with 5, Ridaija Miller of Lufkin, Briana Dillard of Hudson and Kellen Spangler of Pineywoods Academy with 3 each and Shayla Hubbard of Diboll with 2.

Jodi Adkins of Central Heights led Nacogdoches with 18 points. Other scorers for the team were Jessica Munoz of Central Heights with 12, Haylee Hardy of Central Heights with 6, Kayla Moore of Cushing with 5, Shelby Brown of Woden with 4, Brooke Scarborough of Martinsville with 3 and Me'Keya Stanton of Woden and Jacqueline Billiot with 2 each.

The boys game was a tighter contest before Angelina pulled away in the fourth quarter. Angelina led 20-16 after the first, 33-29 at the half. Nacogdoches led 47-46 after the third.

Jaylon Calvin of Lufkin led Angelina with 12 points. Other scorers were Javarius Cooper of Hudson with 10, Royce Kenebrew of Lufkin and Jamarcus Polk of Diboll with 9 each, Chas Walls of Diboll with 7, Pryde Nerren of Huntington with 6, Jesse Villanueva of Diboll with 5, Cameron Hart of Lufkin and Ethan Dhone of Huntington with 4 each and Jared Davis of Central with 3.

Blake Rawlinson of Woden and Jack Garner of Douglass led Nacogdoches with 14 points each. Other scorers for the team were Andrew Little of Chireno and Ryan Wooten of Nacogdoches with 7, Terrance Sowell of Chireno with 6, Turner Edwards of Garrison with 4, Tray Robertson of Martinsville with 3 and PR Johnson of Central Heights with 2.
