LUFKIN, TX (Press Release)- Not two weeks ago, the Angelina College Roadrunners and Paris Dragons were locked in a tie for the fourth, and final, spot in the upcoming Region XIV Conference Tournament.

Then the Dragons fell victim to a three-game, weekend sweep, and suddenly the Roadrunners' chances increased significantly.

Paris College's three losses to Panola College over the weekend, combined with AC's win over Northeast Texas Community College, now have the Roadrunners in good position to solidify a post-season spot. AC's conference record is 12-13, while the Dragons dropped to 12-15.

The 'Runners will host NTCC in a key doubleheader on Tuesday. Two AC wins will mean the Dragons will need to sweep Roadrunners in the season-ending series opening on Friday – a series Angelina College will host. A Tuesday split from the 'Runners leaves the Dragons needing two wins in three tries to take the final spot.

The conference tournament opens Saturday, May 14 at Constellation Field in Sugar Land. The tournament winner books a berth in the NJCAA Division I World series in Grand Junction, Colorado.

In AC's Thursday win over the Eagles, Mitch Henshaw rocked a two-run homer as part of the Roadrunners' four-run sixth inning and Reid Garrett offered a clutch pitching performance in relief in a 6-5 win. Rain pushed the doubleheader from the weekend to Tuesday.

Game time at Roadrunner Field is 2 p.m.
