NACOGDOCHES COUNTY, TX (KTRE) -

Deputies with the Nacogdoches County Sheriff’s Office arrested a 31-year-old man Tuesday in connection to allegations that he used a belt to strike a 5-year-old child multiple times, causing bruising to the child’s back, upper arm, and leg.

Juan Herrera, of Nacogdoches, is still being held in the Nacogdoches County Jail on a third-degree felony injury to a child charge. His bail amount has been set at $15,000.

According to the probable cause affidavit, the incident occurred on May 1. An NCSO deputy met with the child’s mother at the sheriff’s office, and she said that Herrera used a belt to hit their child multiple times, causing bruising to his back, upper arm, and leg.

The probable cause affidavit stated that another adult and a child both witnessed Herrera strike the child with a belt.
