Steady progress along Lakeland Drive

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

The ongoing construction on Lakeland Drive in Flowood is nowhere near complete, but it is on schedule.

Crews are busy this week paving an area between Old Fannin Road and Grants Ferry Road.

Workers are also doing some piping and bridge work over Flowood Drive. Any necessary lane closures are being done at night in an effort to minimize the impact on traffic.

Jennifer Anderson, Flowood's Executive Director at the Chamber of Commerce says it can be tough driving on Lakeland Drive during construction, but she knows it will be worth it.

"I remind myself and try to remind others that it is just a sign of progress. I'm thankful that we have a commissioner and city leadership that fight to make these improvements. It is a short term sacrifice for a long-term benefit," says Anderson.

The Lakeland Drive expansion project should be complete during the fall of 2017.
