SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH-- Stephen F. Austin’s Thomas Walkup is doing all he can to make his dreams of playing in the NBA a reality. He had a more up close and personal opportunity Thursday to make it happen with a pre-draft workout with the Utah Jazz.
Following his workout, Walkup talked with the media about how the drills went.
“We did a lot of competition stuff so one-on-one, three-on-three stuff. We did a lot of shooting, went up and down a little bit just to test our conditioning. I thought it all went well,” said Walkup.
Standing at 6’4” Walkup would no doubt be one of the smaller guys in the league, but he still feels he brings several good qualities to the table.
“I’m a combo card between a point guard and shooting guard, but I think I can guard the point guard, shooting guard and small forward. I think that will be my biggest asset is being able to sit down and wear the other team’s best player out, guard them for 48 minutes.”
Walkup said this was his second NBA pre-draft workout and mentioned he had possibly up to four more in the works, then hopefully more after that.
The former Lumberjack did not get an invite to the NBA Draft Combine that will be held in Chicago. However, he said he wasn't worried about that saying there have been players who were drafted and had success in the NBA who didn't get invited to the Combine.
