From Deep East Texas Crime Stoppers
LUFKIN, TX (News Release) - With the help of two donors, Crime Stoppers is able to increase the reward offer in the animal cruelty incident involving Eve the longhorn.
Eve, a registered and prizing-winning Texas longhorn and beloved family pet, died at Southern Stables in Lufkin after the tendons of both of her hind legs were severed. Her veterinarian determined that the injuries were caused by a single blow with an object similar to a machete. Eve's injuries could not be repaired and would not heal; she was left immobile and defenseless, and her owners made the decision to allow her veterinarian to end her life. Eve had recently been bred, so both mother and baby were lost. Before a taxidermist could preserve Eve's remains, someone removed and stole her head and horns.
Crime Stoppers offered a reward for an anonymous tip that helped solve this act of cruelty and put the offender(s) in jail. =The case remains unsolved and, thanks to a $100 donation from Texas Longhorn Soap Company and a $1,000 donation from Ark-La-Tex Texas Longhorn Breeders Association, the reward offer has been increased to up to $2,100.
If you can identify the person(s) responsible for the initial crime of animal cruelty or the person(s) responsible for the theft of Eve's head and horns, call Deep East Texas Crime Stoppers at (936) 639-TIPS or submit a tip online at www.DETCS.tips. Crime Stoppers calls and tips are anonymous and Crime Stoppers may pay a reward of up to $2,100 for the first, most accurate anonymous tip that leads to an arrest.
