TRINITY, TX (KTRE) - A Trinity man has died from injuries following a wreck on Tuesday. It was his second time driving while intoxicated within two weeks.
Alejandro Avila, 56, was in a two-vehicle accident around 9:15 p.m. on Robb and Prospect St. in Trinity. Avila was taken to East Texas Medical Center in Trinity and later life-flighted to the ETMC in Tyler.
Chief of Police, Steven Jones, said officers investigated the incident by conducting a blood warrant while Avila was hospitalized. Authorities suspect that he was intoxicated.
According to Trinity Police Department officials, there were two passengers in the other car involved. One of them was taken to ETMC in Trinity and later released.
Avila had recently posted a $3,500 bond after a DWI arrest last Tuesday, May 3rd. DPS arrested Avila at the Trinity Discount Zone after calls about a reckless driver.
The incident would have been Avila's third DWI arrest had he survived his injuries.
