Stormy Start to Monday in East Texas

The week got off to a stormy start as storms pounded East Texas Monday morning.  There were scattered reports of hail, wind damage, and some flooding in the area.  Fortunately, by the afternoon, skies across the Pineywoods began to clear leading to a nice spring afternoon.

Here's a county by county view of storm damage and rainfall reports received by the Live Doppler 9 Weather Team:

Angelina County

  • Wind damage -- signs blown down along Highway 69 north of Lufkin
  • House fire on Bynum Street in Lufkin, thought to be caused by a lightning strike
  • Several reports of nickel sized hail just north of Lufkin
  • Trees down near Highway 69 north of Lufkin
  • Moffett -- 1.8" Rain
  • Huntington -- 1.2" Rain

Cherokee County

  • Wells -- 1.5" Rain
  • Alto -- 1.25" Rain

Houston County

  • Kennard -- 0.9" Rain
  • Grapeland -- 0.5" Rain

Nacogdoches County

  • Carrizo Creek -- 4.6" Rain
  • Garrison -- 3.2" Rain
