As the Lufkin softball team continues to inch their way closer and closer to a hopeful state title, the one constant has been the accuracy of pitching by Alex Flores.
The senior has had yet another near perfect season on the mound. She's recorded over 250 strikeouts this year and has only walked 10 batters all season.
The McNeese State signee and captain of the softball team said she's just looking to end things on a high note.
“I want to go out with a bang, break records and just play my game. Honestly, I just want to be myself,” said Flores.
“She's done a phenomenal job. Anytime you get from a 1.-2. ERA, that great and she's below the average. She's at a .881 ERA,” said first-year head coach Shelby Holcomb. “She's just been lights out on the mound and when we do get an in-play, our defense has completely had her back.”
Lufkin will now face North Forney in the regional semifinal. The series will start Thursday in Madisonville at 6 p.m. Game 2 will be in Van, Friday at 7:30 p.m. If necessary, Game 3 will be back at Van starting at 4 p.m.
