CROCKETT, TX (KTRE) -

A former correctional officer at the Eastham Unit in Lovelady has pleaded guilty to taking a bribe from a prisoner in exchange for tobacco in March of 2014.

Court records show Kevin Paul Vallery, 25, of Crockett, pleaded guilty on Sept. 11, 2015, but did not have to report to jail until Sunday.

He is serving 180 days in county jail as a term of his five years of deferred adjudication. Vallery will be released from supervision in three years if he satisfactorily completes all terms.

According to a previous report, Vallery was caught on the unit with tobacco in his pants and admitted he was trying to smuggle it in for one of the inmates in exchange for $600.
