LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - From the Lufkin Police Department
LUFKIN, TX (News Release) - The Department is investigating a debit/credit card fraud case after card skimmers were found inside gas pumps at two local convenience stores.
Workers for the companies that service pumps at Crown Colony Food Mart on U.S. 59 south and Kwick Korner Shell on South Timberland Drive and Chestnut Street, found the devices, which can read and transmit credit card information via a wireless signal. The workers then notified store clerks who reported the finds to the Department. The card skimmers from both locations appear to be the similar.
Roughly three weeks ago, a woman reported finding unauthorized transactions on her credit/debit card. She told an officer that the last place she used it was Crown Colony Food Mart.
"If you have used your debit or credit card at the gas pumps at Crown Colony Food Mart or Kwick Korner Shell, we would advise you to contact your bank or credit card company to have a new card number issued," said LPD Public Relations Specialist Jessica Pebsworth.
