NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) -

The Dane Shaw Shoe Drive in Nacogdoches has set a new goal for this year.

Organizers of the annual drive are thinking if more than 700 pairs of shoes were collected last year, there's no reason why 1,000 pairs couldn't be collected this year.

The shoe drive is in memory of four-year-old Dane. The child and his grandmother died in a 2013 house fire.

His former school, Adventure Island Learning Center, and Shaw Photography keep his legacy alive with the collection of new or lightly worn children's shoes.

In addition, the daycare hosts a "fun day" for all children.

"We have snow cones and we have the bouncy houses,” said Candace Grey, a pre-school teacher. “The kids love those. We have the playground out there. We just run around and have a good time. It's open to everyone. We love to see everyone come."

The Dane Shaw Shoe Drive continues through May 27.

On that day, Dane's Day will take place at the Adventure Island Learning Center on Northeast Stallings Drive from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
