LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) -

Six of Lufkin ISD's special education teachers are graduating with the special education class of 2016. They were honored for their service as they prepare for retirement.

These teachers have spent the students' entire high school career with them.

At the end of the graduation ceremony, those teachers were honored with gifts.

The assistant principal of special education said the teachers who have made bonds with the graduates are some of the most dedicated.

"Teachers that have been in these students' lives for so long are about to go on a different voyage. That voyage is retirement, and they are going to be truly missed," said Michael Hillis, Assistant Principal of Special Education.

Two of them worked as teachers for over forty years! Hillis said between all six of those teachers, there is 212 years of experience.
