ZAVALLA, TX (News Release) - Zavalla ISD Police Department is seeking help identifying two criminals who burglarized Zavalla ISD Bus Barn on Colwell Street.

The burglars struck around 1:30 the morning of May 12. A camera at the high school captured the crime, but it was dark outside and the camera was a good distance away from the barn, so the burglars’ identities are not easily determined from the video. Portions of the video are posted at

The burglars were at the bus barn for nearly 30 minutes, hiding each time a vehicle passed by on Colwell Street or Main Street. They entered a truck, but it’s not known what they took, and they used a metal bar to pry at the door to the shop/office area. Although the door was damaged, the building was not entered. The burglars approached the barn walking from Colwell Street, and they left walking back that way; the video does not show them operating a vehicle.

Even though their faces are not seen in the video, someone reading this article or watching the video will be able to solve the crime. Someone might recognize the way the burglars walk or act, the burglars might have told someone what they did, or someone will remember two criminally-minded people wandering around Zavalla the morning this happened. Whichever way the criminals get identified, Crime Stoppers will be ready with reward money for the right anonymous tip.

If you can identify either of the criminals, or provide information concerning a similar burglary, call Deep East Texas Crime Stoppers at (936) 639-TIPS or submit a tip online at Calls and tips made directly to Crime Stoppers are anonymous and the first, most accurate anonymous tip that leads to an arrest may be eligible for a reward.
