Lufkin High School celebrated their long-time boys soccer coach Russell Shaw by throwing him a retirement party Tuesday.
Shaw has decided to hang up the cleats after 30 years coaching the Panthers.
He's reached several benchmarks at Lufkin by bringing them their first-ever state title, he’s collected several Coach of the Year honors and has played a vital role in building the success of the program.
“30 years here has been long but it's also been fast. It's hard to describe. It's been a great ride, especially being able to finally achieve what we worked so many years for,” said Shaw. “It's a blessing to work here and a blessing to work with the people here.”
Shaw said he’s looking forward to having his own schedule during his retirement and spending more time with his new granddaughter.
