HOUSTON (AP) - A Houston 18-year-old has been arrested and charged with illegally distributing explosive-making information and attempting to support the Islamic State organization. The U.S. Justice Department said Monday that it arrested Kaan Sercan Damlarkaya on Dec. 8 following an undercover FBI operation.
HOUSTON (AP) - Mexican journalist Emilio Gutierrez Soto fears he could be killed if he is deported. He fled to the U.S. a decade ago after articles he wrote alleging corruption in the Mexican military caused his name to end up on a hit list. The National Press Club and other press freedom advocates held an event Monday highlighting Gutierrez's case and those of other reporters at risk.
HOUSTON (AP) - Houston public school officials say they plan to tear down and rebuild four elementary schools severely damaged during Hurricane Harvey floods. Houston Independent School District Chief Operating Officer Brain Busby says the $126 million plan also would include elevating the new schools to ease the threat of damage from future flooding.
HOUSTON (AP) - The U.S. Supreme has refused to review an appeal from a 48-year-old Salvadoran man on Texas death row for the slayings of two Houston store clerks during an attempted robbery more than 17 years ago. The high court had no comment in its decision Monday in the case of Gilmar Guevara.
