NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) - A California man wanted on a parole violation warrant has been taken into custody, ending a four-hour negotiation with East Texas authorities.
Several Nacogdoches police units arrived on 200 block Ritchie Street at 3:02 p.m Thursday, trying to apprehend Lamar Dwayne Allen, 49, who is wanted by authorities in California.
Sergeant Greg Sowell with the Nacogdoches Police Department said they received a tip that Allen was in the area. Officers went to the home to try to serve the warrant on a parole violation.
"This was an attempt to service a felony warrant out of California," Sowell said. "Our officers did get a visual sight of the suspect. He then fled back into the house and refused to come out."
Allen is wanted for a revocation of felony parole warrant-rape with force out of Los Angeles, California.
Allen was holed-up inside the home of his grandmother, who wasn't inside the home at the time. Nacogdoches Police crisis negotiators attempted to get Allen to surrender, but he refused. Officials later put Allen's grandmother on the phone, but that was also unsuccessful.
Authorities pushed back residents 500 feet to secure the scene and released tear gas in yet another attempt to get Allen out of the house.
"Some people were in houses neighboring and have been told to shelter in place, which means they'll remain in the house," Sowell said.
The armored vehicle moved into front yard a foot from the front door shielding officers. Police helped a backyard neighbor get out of her home as negotiations continued.
The remaining neighbor was told to shelter in place.
Around 8:30 p.m., the Nacogdoches SWAT team made entry to the house and took Allen into custody. No one was injured.
Allen was booked into the Nacogdoches County Jail and is also facing new charges of Aggravated Assault on a Public Servant and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm By a Felon.
It is unclear when he will be transported to California.
In addition to Nacogdoches Police, the Nacogdoches Sheriffs Department, troopers with the Texas Department of Public Safety, Nacogdoches County Constable- Precinct 1, Nacogdoches Fire Department and Nacogdoches County EMS responded.
