CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA (Press Release)- Former Stephen F. Austin pitching great Cameron Gann has locked down a spot as a relief pitcher in the 2016 Midwest League All-Star Game. The Midwest League is a 16-team group of the MLB’s Single-A affiliates in seven states from around the Midwest that include Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio and Wisconsin.
A 27th round draft pick of the MLB’s Arizona Diamondbacks in 2015, Gann has made a name for himself as a solid closer for the Diamondbacks’ Single-A affiliate – the Kane County Cougars – thus far in 2016. In 24.1 innings on the hill for the Cougars, Gann has gone nine-for-nine in his save opportunities, giving the Crandall, Texas, product the third-most saves in the Midwest League.
This season, Gann has also compiled a record of 1-2 as well as an ERA of 1.48 in his 19 games played. The owner of the second-most career pitching wins in the Stephen F. Austin record books has fanned 27 batters and given up only five runs and 11 walks in his first full season of service with the Cougars.
Gann is one of 14 pitchers who made the cut for the Midwest League Western Division All-Star Team and will take to Perfect Game Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium on Tuesday, June 21, to take part in the game.
