Carnival Of The Heart

by Chris Cato

The faces of the residents at the Lufkin State School light up as clowns make balloons and play games. It's exactly what 15-year-old Dalton wanted when he decided to create a carnival for the residents.

Dalton Goodier, a Life Scout said, "our youth group has been out to the State School before and we've given out little parties for the residents here so we decided to do something a little bigger for my Eagle Project."

Dalton says seeing all of the project come together today was amazing. It's hard to believe all the work he put in to it has finally come to a head. And the look of appreciation on the faces is all Dalton needed.

Dalton said, "it's really nice just when you get to see all these people and some of them actually remember you and that's really meaningful."

Meaningful to Dalton, and to the State School employees that work with the residents on a daily basis. They say they've never seen any one person do something so kind.

David Flanagan, a State School employee said, "that's what it's all about, it's doing something for the guys that live here. And it's just a great thing to see the look on their face when everything is over and how much fun they've had during the day."

And at the end of this day, all the resident's are sure to have a smile on their face, even if it's just because of a few clowns. Dalton says the project took a long time to put together, but he says he couldn't have done it without the volunteers that helped him along the way.
