BATON ROUGE, LA- Hudson native Riley Smith has decided to start his professional career by signing with the Arizona Diamondbacks. Smith was selected in this year's MLB Draft in the 24th round. He was the 719th overall pick.
Since high school, Smith has spent two years at San Jacinto where he and the Gators made a trip to Junior College World Series in Junction, Colorado. From there, Smith signed to pitch at LSU.
During the right hander's junior year in Baton Rouge, the Tigers advanced to the Super Regional.
