LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - One hundred East Texas children will be better protected after a helmet giveaway on Saturday.
Several Lufkin agencies, including the Lufkin Police Department, will be handing out brand-new bike helmets to children as part of the Pilot Club of Lufkin's 'bicycle rodeo'.
Organizes say it will be first-come, first-serve. They also hope that these helmets will make East Texas children safer while riding around during the summer.
"Main focuses of Pilot Club of Lufkin, as well as Pilot Club International is the prevention of traumatic brain injury," said Libby Parish, Pilot Club of Lufkin Secretary. "And we will do that by teaching the children to ride safely as well as presenting them with helmets."
The 'bicycle rodeo' will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. at the Calvary Baptist Church in Lufkin. There will also be popcorn, balloon animals and snow cones available at no cost.
Two new bicycles – one boys and one girls – will be up for grabs in a drawing that will be held at the end of the rodeo. Door prizes like movie tickets will also be available.
The helmet giveaway is co-sponsored by Texas Medical Association and Chandler, Mathis & Zivley Law Firm.
