LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - Officers with the Lufkin Police Department arrested a 31-year-old man early Monday morning on a felony drug charge after they found him asleep and lying in the middle of a parking lot on North First Street.
Terrance Jerone Washington, of Lufkin, is still being held in the Angelina County Jail on a third-degree felony possession of a controlled substance between 1 and 4 grams charge, a Class C misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia charge, and A Class C public intoxication charge. Collectively, his bail amount was set at $1,000 for the two misdemeanor charges.
According to the Lufkin Police Department's daily activity report, the incident occurred at about 12:21 a.m. Monday morning. Lufkin PD officers were dispatched out to North First Street in reference to a man lying in the middle of a parking lot with his vehicle running a few yards away.
After the officers woke Washington, who smelled strongly of alcohol, he allegedly went over to his car and began hitting his vehicle's gas cap. When the officer asked Washington what he was doing, he replied that he was "closing out the register," the report stated.
After Washington was taken into custody, the officers found him to be in possession of cocaine and a straw used for snorting cocaine, the report stated.
