SAN AUGUSTINE COUNTY, TX (KTRE) - A 22-year-old San Augustine man accepted a plea deal agreement of 10 years of probation for having an ongoing sexual relationship with a then-13-year-old girl from May to September of 2015.
Dylan Wyatt Yates appeared in a San Augustine County courtroom Thursday for a plea hearing.
As part of the plea bargain deal, Wyatt pleaded guilty to three second-degree felony indecency with a child charges. In exchange, the state dropped a first-degree felony aggravated sexual assault of a child charge, and two second-degree felony indecency with a child charges.
Yates will also be required to pay a $1,000 fine.
Chief Deputy Gary Cunningham with the San Augustine County Jail said that Yates, the victim, the victim's mother, and Yates' pastor all showed up at the sheriff's office to talk to authorities, and Yates admitted to having an ongoing sexual relationship with the girl in a period from May to September. Cunningham said that the relationship wasn't forced, and that Yates has been cooperative.
According to Texas law, a child under the age of 17 cannot legally give consent to have sex.
