DPS releases names of 3 people involved in fatal wreck north of Central Heights

NACOGDOCHES COUNTY, TX (KTRE) -

One person has died following a two-vehicle wreck on US 259 in Nacogdoches County Wednesday afternoon.

According to DPS spokeswoman Stephanie Davis, the crash occurred at the intersection of County Road 822, which is in the Central Heights area, at about 1:30 p.m. Wednesday.

According to a press release from the Texas Department of Public Safety, a 2008 Hyundai driven by Geneva Gorum, 35, of Nacogdoches was traveling north on US 259, when for some unknown reason, she crossed the center line and struck a southbound 2015 GMC SUV driven Buena Foster, 67, of Gilmer, head on.

Geneva Gorum was transported to Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead by Justice of the Peace Leann Goerner. Her passenger. 6-year-old Hazel Gorum, was airlifted to the LSU Medical Hospital in Shreveport. Louisiana. Her injuries did not appear to be life threatening, the press release stated.

Foster was transported to Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital. She also had injuries that didn't appear to be life threatening.

All lanes were closed while crews cleaned up the scene but they were open by 3 p.m.

The wreck is still under investigation.
