LUFKIN, TX - The Lufkin ISD Board of Trustees met for a special meeting on Wednesday morning to appoint a new board member to fill the vacant position left by Stanley New, long-time board member who recently passed away. The board appointed Mrs. Kristi Gay, Senior Vice President of Commercial Lending at BancorpSouth. She will fill the remainder of Stanley New's term until May 2017.

LISD Board President, Dr. Keven Ellis said, "We are excited and proud to select Kristi Gay to join the Lufkin ISD Board of Trustees. Kristi's long commitment to Lufkin schools, extensive community service and strong financial background will be a true asset to Lufkin ISD, students and staff.

Mrs. Gay is a 1981 Magna Cum Laude graduate of Texas A&M University with a degree in accounting and is a licensed Certified Public Accountant. She serves on the boards of the Lufkin ISD Education Foundation, Kurth Memorial Library, United Way, the Lufkin/Angelina County Economic Development Partnership and is a member of the Lufkin Rotary Club.  Mrs. Gay is married to Ricky Gay who is a 1978 graduate of Lufkin High School and who works as a Forest/Wildlife Manager for the Henderson Trust.  They are members of Denman Avenue Baptist Church where Kristi teaches a first grade Sunday school class.  They have three children, Kendall and Bailey, who are graduates of Texas A&M University, and Wyatt, who is attending Stephen F. Austin State University.  All three children attended Lufkin ISD schools from kindergarten through high school graduation.  Kristi and Ricky are passionate about music education and served 15 years in the Lufkin Band Booster organization while their children attended Lufkin ISD schools.
