ANGELINA COUNTY, TX (KTRE) - Deputies with the Angelina County Sheriff's Office arrested the Lufkin man suspected of assaulting two people and being involved in a disturbance in which several people were injured Friday afternoon.
Angelina County Sheriff Greg Sanches posted on his Facebook page that they had caught Jason Edgar Witter Friday afternoon. The Facebook post stated that Witter was booked into the Angelina County jail, but it didn't go into any detail about his charges.
Sanches said his deputies found Witter on Tidwell Road at about 12:46 p.m. Friday, adding that the assault suspect was standing on the side of the road talking to someone.
On Thursday, the Angelina County Sheriff's Office released a press released that said it had issued an arrest warrant for Witter.
According to the press release, ACSO deputies responded to a 911 call about a disturbance in the 100 block of Crosstimbers Street just before midnight on June 18. However, when they got to the scene, they were unable to make contact with anyone.
At about 9:39 a.m. the next morning, someone called the sheriff's office and said that he or she had been assaulted by Witter in the 100 block of Crosstimbers Street on June 18. An ACSO deputy responded and took an offense report from the person.
The alleged victim told the ACSO deputy that Witter assaulted another person on June 18, but didn't identify the other person, the press release stated. The witness also said that they didn't wait for deputies to arrive on the scene.
Then at about 11:01 a.m. Sunday, another person came to the sheriff's office and claimed they were one of the people Witter assaulted, the press release stated. An offense report was taken, and it was referred to ACSO deputies.
Witter's name came up again a short time later.
"At approximately 11:09 a.m., on Sunday, June 19, 2016, deputies of the Angelina County Sheriff's Office responded to a request for assistance by paramedics responding to a disturbance among multiple parties on Nash Road," the press release stated. "More than one person was injured during this incident and Jason Witter was involved in the disturbance. Detectives and Crime Scene personnel of the Angelina County Sheriff's Office also responded to the Nash Road location, and the investigation into that incident is continuing."
Because some people involved in the alleged incidents have proved difficult to contact, ACSO detectives are requesting that the witnesses involved in these incidents contact the Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigation Division at (936) 634-3331.
