It all started last Thursday, April 14th. That is when 28-year-old Daniel Adams is accused of engaging in sexual activity with a female prisoner. Adams was a peace officer, employed by the Polk County sheriff's office. He has now been arrested, and fired.

Capt. Dennis Allen, of the Polk County sheriff's dept., said, "We opened an internal affairs investigation after we received a complaint that a prisoner had been involved in sexual misconduct with an employee of the sheriff's department."

Adams joined the force as a transport officer in January 2004, then went on patrol in July 2004, he had not been a patrol officer for even a year.

Capt. Allen said, "This type of thing is taken to the most extreme urgency and sincerity and it's going to require our upmost investigation into the matter."

The Texas Rangers and the sheriff's department will continue to investigate the incident. That could take weeks. Eventually, the findings will be handed over to the district attorney's office.

Adams was arrested on charges of violating the civil rights of a person in custody. He has since been released after posting a $5,000 bond.
